Neues Fliegen e.V. is happy to announce the sixth iteration of the New Flying Competition (NFC) set for 2027
Task Description
From the start, the competition is aligned with the current aerospace industry. Following a producitve discourse with partners representing the university HAW Hamburg and the industry around Hamburg, including the DLR and Airbus, the team formulated the competition task. The overall goal of this competition can be summarized as the following:
Design, predict, manufacture, and fly a model aircraft based on a flight profile for a humanitarian aid mission, where the aircraft must adhere to real-life operational difficulties encountered with infrastructure. The aircraft will receive scoring based on results from the flight of this profile.
Numerical methods are becoming a cornerstone in early development due to continued improvements through the years. The teams ability to predict their design’s performance accurately is emphasized in this competition, where the theoretical predictions provided will be compared to physical flight performance in a performance flight task and their deviations scored. This not only helps attendees improve their ability to predict actual flight characteristics, but also gives the teams a basis for comparing their prediction capabilites to the final product.

The Competition Task is the primary document for the competition and outlines many aspects that need to be accounted for during design.

Where is the Rules of the New Flying Competition document?
31.03.2025: This had to be delayed until after the release of the NFC. We will upload the Rules of the New Flying Competition as soon as possible. All relevant rules and guidelines for the aircraft’s design are included in the Competition Task document.
